The Honorable Omar Zakhaiwal Minister of Finance of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Visits Geneva to launch new program with UNITAR and University of Geneva

This document creates a new partnership between Ministry of Finance and UNITAR. According to the Agreement a Twelve months Executive Master Degree Program will be conducted for twenty officials of the Ministry of finance.

The program which will commence in May 2013 is partly financed by the Government of Afghanistan, implemented by UNITAR and the Graduate Institute of Geneva, under the coordination of the Ministry of Finance of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Within his two days stay in Geneva Dr. Zakhailwal visited the office of UNITAR, UNOG, PALAIS DES Nations and the Campus of the Graduate Institute of Geneva that is UNITAR’s implementation partner for the mentioned Executive Masters program.

On 31th January Hon. Dr. Zakhailwal delivered a speech about (The Post-Conflict Reconstruction of Afghanistan, and the Outlook Beyond 2014) at the library of the UN. This talk was attended by H.E Ambassador Tarzai, Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev,

Director-General of UNOG, Ms. Sally Fegan-Wyles, UNITAR Executive Director, Assistant Secretary-General, and Chief Librarian, as well as by member of the diplomatic corps in Geneva.

On the same day Dr. Zakhailwal also visited the Embassy and Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Geneva where he held a bilateral meeting with the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Netherland’s in Geneva who is simultaneously heading the Working Group of Afghanistan’s accession to World Trade Organization, he was also accompanied by the Director of Accession Division of WTO.

The Hon, Dr. Zakhailwal Participated in a lunch party which was hosted in his honor by the Embassy and permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Geneva. During the reception Hon, Dr Zakhailwal exchanged views with a numbers of Afghans reside and work in different UN organization in Geneva.
