September 17, 2016; the Embassy marked the Week of Shahid or the Week of the Martyred.
The Embassy and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the United Nations based in Geneva held an event to commemorate the sacrifices that Afghanistan has seen in its recent decades and to honor the late Ahmad Shah Masood, former President Ustad Burhanuddin Rabbani, and the thousands of Afghans who sacrificed their lives for a just, humane, and better Afghanistan. The event was attended by many Afghans from various parts of Switzerland, and included a recitation of the Holy Quran and prayers. Ambassador Suraya Dalil reminded the attendants of the Afghan security forces who jeopardize their lives every day to safeguard the national territory, the flag, and the future of Afghanistan. Each individual who has sacrificed his or her life, whether military or civilian, remains part of the nation’s pride, history, and honor. The Embassy and the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the United Nations based in Geneva extends its gratitude to all who attended the event
