AFGHANISTAN MINISTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH ATTENDS SIXTY-EIGHTH WORLD HEATH ASSEMBLY

The Sixty-eighth session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) took place in Geneva 18–26 May 2015. It was attended by delegations from all WHO Member States, as well as representatives from many agencies, organizations, foundations and other groups that contribute to improving public health. Its main functions were to determine the policies of the Organization, supervise financial policies, review and approve the proposed programme budget.
The Afghan Delegation led by H.E Minister Ferozuddin Feroz, the Public Health Minister of Afghanistan, attended the 67th session of World Health Assembly. This year a series of technical briefing and discussions on health in the post 2015 sustainable development goals, Ebola outbreak, climate and health and cancer prevention and control were included in the 68th Agenda. H.E. Minister Ferozuddin Feroz was appointed as the Vice-Chair of the Sixty-eight Session of the World Health Assembly.
On May 20, 2015 H.E Minister Ferozuddin Feroz delivered his speech at the plenary session, focusing on building resilient health system in Afghanistan, implementing anti-corruption measures, strengthening access to primary health care, improving the quality of both management and care, better specialist tertiary care especially through public-private investment partnerships.
On the Side-line of the 38th Assembly, Afghanistan together with Canada and Mozambique co-sponsored a side-event on “strengthening the role of the health system in addressing violence, particularly against women and girls”.
The 38th Session of the World Health Assembly closed on 26th May 2015 passing resolution on air pollution, epilepsy and laying out the next steps in finalizing a framework of engagement with non-State actors.
The 20th Anniversary of Turkmenistan Neutrality recognition by the International Community

On 27 February 2015, Ambassador Nanguyalai Tarzi was invited by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations to give his remarks on the Afghan-Turkmen friendly relations with emphasis on a role of Turkmenistan in the region as a neutral neighbour, held in the Turkmen Room of the United Nations Office in Geneva.
Ambassador Tarzi speaking about the long historical and cultural relations between two countries said “In the new era, the good relation and close cooperation between both countries is an example of regional cooperation”. He further added that, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan’s development is interconnected that makes both countries further expand their economic ties.
Praising the Friendship Agreement signed between both countries in 2011, He talked about the TAPI project, trade turnover, electricity export and the importance of signing the memorandum of understanding on the construction of the joint Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway project.
